About Me

Matt Whittaker, bodywork practitioner
Hugo, Remi & Nina – The Welcoming Committee

I got into bodywork in 1998 almost by accident. I received a basic certification in massage therapy without much intention of making a career out of it. Then the anatomy classes started. Learning to inhabit my own body differently, to actually feel what was happening in tissue, to trace a sensation back to its structural source: I was hooked in a way I hadn’t expected.

Not long after graduation, I found myself drawn deeper. Specifically toward myofascial release as a way of addressing long-held musculoskeletal patterns that ordinary massage couldn’t reach. That curiosity led me to Structural Integration, and eventually to studying and receiving certification through Tom Myers and Kinesis Inc. That training reshaped how I understand the body, and it’s been the foundation of my practice ever since.

More than 25 years in, I’m still in it for the same reason: watching people change. Not just feel better after a session, but actually reorganize. People who came in guarded and left standing differently. People who had written off certain movements as permanently off the table. People who came looking for relief from chronic pain and found something closer to reclamation.

I work slowly and deliberately. I pay attention to what’s happening beneath the surface before deciding where to go next. Every body has its own history and its own logic, and I try to meet that rather than impose a protocol on it. That said, I have a deep appreciation for the structure of the Structural Integration series precisely because it offers a systematic way to address the whole body over time, rather than chasing individual symptoms session to session.

My practice is in Rehoboth, MA. I work with people navigating chronic pain and tension, recovering from injury, and those who simply want to stay in their body with more ease and awareness as life continues to ask things of them.
