Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue work reaches the structures that superficial massage can’t access: muscles that lie beneath the more easily palpated layers, and the connective tissue relationships between them. Getting there requires specific positioning and often active or passive movement from the person on the table.

The most common misunderstanding about deep tissue massage is that it has to be forceful. It doesn’t. The most effective sessions move slowly, working with the body’s responses rather than through them. Tissue that’s being pushed through tends to guard. Tissue that’s being met tends to release.

This is a good choice if you have a specific structural concern that’s been holding in a particular area for a while and you want focused work without the commitment of the full Structural Integration series.
